Vital Signs: More Hotel Rooms Filled



Hotel occupancy rose this holiday season. U.S. hotels filled 37% of their rooms in the week ended Dec. 24, up 8% from a year earlier. Before the recession, hotels generally filled more than 40% of their rooms during the week leading up to Christmas. Rates haven’t recovered, either; revenue per available room rose 11% this year, but is still down 14% from 2007.
